Reminder to Members of Upcoming Events in June

Hello Members,

The SMLA has a couple of events coming up in June. First, the Ladies of the Lake meet the first Monday of every month at 9 am at The Front Porch Restaurant in Ellsworth. This is a nice, informal gathering of gals who get together for breakfast and comraderie. It’s a good way to get acquainted with your neighbors and is always a good time to exchange general information about who to call for what, or to relate happenings around the lake beneficial to members, etc. The date is June 3 for that.

Next up is the SMLA board meeting open to any member, Thursday, June 6 at 7pm at Steve and Kathryn Bell’s home at 4728 Six Mile Lake Rd just a few houses south of Echo Twp Park. Look for the big log home. Our president, Cliff Sorrell, has been delayed returning from the south, so vice-president, Jeff Rogers, will be chairing the meeting.

Last, but definitely not least, is the first general meeting of the summer which is our annual breakfast meeting combined with a short business meeting immediately after. This event starts at 9am. Bring a scrumptious dish to pass and your own table service. Coffee and orange juice will be provided by the Association. The Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church at the south end of Six Mile Lake Rd is the location. We always have a lot of fun when we get together. We have The Little Traverse Conservancy coming to explain what is going on with the Nathan Beem preserve so please try to come. I have asked them to set up a display prior to the breakfast so members can ask questions in order to keep the business meeting short. The magnetic calendars will also be available to members so remind me to give you yours! A special thank you to Linda VanAndel and Kathryn Bell for hosting this event.

Also, there will not be a meeting in July so if we don’t see you at this one it won’t be until the August picnic on the 10th that we see you again. Anyone wishing to help out at the picnic please let Linda or Kathryn know.

Last but not least I am happy to report that, once again, we have two sets of loons occupying the platforms. I haven’t heard from the biologist yet if they are the same pairs four years running so when I know you will know. In the meantime, thanks for giving the platforms a wide berth. Kelly remarked that these have to the most photographed loons on the Chain. They’re rock stars and they don’t even know it!!! I also wanted to mention the beautiful weekend we just had and remark how quiet the lake was. We had a few fireworks but nothing overdone ( just my opinion) but it seemed everyone I saw was just drinking in how great it was to be a part of the Six Mile Lake community.

See you soon!!!
