LOON BANDING

Loon Banding Information
On Monday July 25th, members of the Loon Network, Common Coast, and Six Mile Lake Association banded both the male loon and the surviving chick on the north end of the lake. He is wearing a red leg band with the initials ‘CH’ and the chick was banded with an orange leg band ‘003’. The female loon was banded three years ago here on Six Mile Lake and wears a white leg band ‘002’. Damon McCormick, the biologist from Common Coast, has surmised that this pair has been together since claiming and occupying the north platform three years ago so now, next spring, when they return, we will be able to tell for sure. One interesting note, the adult male had a hole in one of his feet, possibly the result of a battle with another loon.
