March 2017 – President’s Corner

Hello Everyone,

This is an update to conditions on Six Mile Lake so far this year. The water levels are pretty normal right now. I did talk to the Antrim County Drain Commissioner a couple of weeks ago and Mark Stone was pretty optimistic about how things are looking on the Chain as a whole. He said he would get a write-up to me that we could post on the website but so far no report.

Most of the snow is gone. There are a few banks here or there but that’s about it. The water is a little high but that’s to be expected given that we have had a lot of rain. The robins came back around the first week of March and the geese (unfortunately) have also returned. We’ve had lots of deer activity and a rabbit chewed most of my plants. I have learned that when that happens to just prune out the damage, and usually the plant will grow back. Geez, I can’t wait until summer!!!!

Speaking of which, here is the schedule of meetings for the Association for 2017.

Saturday, June 10
9am Breakfast Brunch at the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church.
Bring a dish to pass and your own table service.
Coffee and juice provided.
Brief business meeting to follow.

Saturday, July 15
9am Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church
Guest Speaker Bre Grabill from PLM (the company that was hired to treat our lake).
If you have any questions or concerns this would be the meeting you would want to attend.

Saturday, August 12
4:30pm Echo Township Park
SMLA Annual Picnic. Bring a dish to pass and your own beverage and table service.
Brats, hot dogs, and usually corn on the cob provided. Lots of good food, fun and fellowship.

Saturday, Sept 9
9am Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church
Elijah Baker, Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council will be speaking on the results of the shoreline survey done this past year. Compared with the previous two shoreline surveys done on Six Mile Lake in the past 25 years should give us a pretty good idea of where we are headed water quality wise.

Saturday, Oct 14
5pm Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church
Chili Supper and Snowbird Send-off. Chili supplied by our famous Six Mile Lake chefs with voting and prizes. Bring cornbread or dessert to pass. Coffee and apple cider provided.

I would also like to take the time to introduce the Board of Directors.

Cliff Sorrell, Vice President
Tom Kupovits, Secretary
Kathy Batka, Treasurer

Board of Directors
Paula Stephanic
Jeff Rogers
Craig Schmidt
Joy Hettig
