Special Assessment District (SAD) Public Hearing

Hello Everyone,

This is my first year as your new president and I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and say hello. My name is Cliff Sorrell, and I’ve had the privilege of living on Six Mile Lake since 2007. Since then I have been fortunate enough to make many friends around our lake and I am so thankful for their friendship. In 2010, I retired as the Vice President of Operations of Ryder System, where I worked for 33 years. You may see me and my white lab Gabriel walking on Dingman School Rd or running together, or on the lake with the pontoon boat. I’m passionate about protecting the lake’s wildlife and natural resources and am looking forward to being the president of our lake association.

My background as an operations executive at Ryder System and my six year tenure as President of the board of directors of a Chamber of Commerce in Texas will help me be a good President for the association and everyone on Six Mile Lake.

I’m sure we all are looking forward to a great summer!

First of all, thank you for being a member of the Six Mile Lake Association. If you haven’t been active in the events or the membership meetings during the year, I urge you to attend! They are fun, informative, and I guarantee you will meet some of the nicest people on the planet! For those of you who wish to become a member, the annual dues are $25 and you can sign up on the SMLA website.

Also, as you may know the public hearing for the Special Assessment District (SAD), will be held on Thursday May 3rd at 7pm at the Echo Township Hall, which is located near the intersection of Six Mile Lake and Old State Rds. Both Echo and South Arm Townships will meet jointly at the Echo Township Hall. The good news this year is that we will see a reduction in our annual assessments!

While we do not anticipate issues in the SAD being approved by both Townships, we need a large turnout on May 3rd to support the Townships recommendations. It would be helpful if you would RSVP here at Sign-Up Genius  so that we will be able get a feel for attendance. RSVP is not required to attend the SAD public hearing.

Our first association meeting of the year will be Saturday, June 9th at 9am. It’s our annual Breakfast Brunch meeting. The meeting is located at the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church. More details on the meeting to come. We look forward to seeing everyone!

I want you all to know that we have an excellent, hard working volunteer Board of Directors, and I’m proud of the good work they do. Your Board of Directors are Cherie Hogan, Paula Stephanic, Kathryn Bell, Craig Schmidt, Jeff Rogers, Linda Van Andel, and Joy Hettig.

In closing, I want to thank Cherie Hogan for her leadership and guidance of our Association the past three years. She’s done a wonderful job!

Thank you again for being a part of our lake association.

Kind Regards,

Cliff Sorrell
