Dear Members,
The dates for the Special Assessment District are Wednesday May 6th at 5pm at the Southarm Twp Hall on M66 in East Jordan and Thursday May 7th at 6pm at the Echo Twp Hall at the south end of Six Mile Lake Rd. Meanwhile, Six Mile Lake remains extremely high with ALL shorelines many feet underwater, trees toppled, debris suspended and snags with docks, chairs, etc piled up around the lake. Full dock sections and at least one boat hoist are many feet up on various properties. The lake is a muddy mess. No one is able to launch at Echo Twp Park as the stations remain underwater and easily run over damaging boats or motors. The little merry-go-round at Echo Township Park is washed out on one side and tilted. Simon’s Rd washed out and completely filled the ditch on Six Mile Lake Rd and eroded part of Echo Township Park. Six Mile Lake Rd collapsed just south of the Charlevoix County line and has been partially repaired. Many homes sustained damage from flooding. The Six Mile Lake Association requested to the county and DNR that all lakes be closed due to these dangerous conditions and to prevent further erosion to shorelines which they have done. Lake Mitchell in Cadillac is under a strict no-wake ban.
The entire Upper Chain is extremely high but Six Mile Lake is higher than all of the rest and sediment that has silted in all along the Chain has slowed the drawdown of Six Mile Lake to a crawl. I have never seen Six Mile Lake remain this flooded for this long. Unless improvements are made at the Bellaire Dam, the culvert in Ellsworth is replaced with a 24 foot box culvert to allow faster waterflow at that chokepoint and dredging the channels between the lakes occur we all can prepare ourselves for more of this same flooding in years to come. Contact the Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners and encourage them to get on board with Antrim County to fix this problem!!
On a brighter note both loon platforms are in and the resident north pair are already up on the platform. The south pair are here but always take longer to settle in.
The Six Mile Lake Association board will be meeting April 30. Anyone can text me at 231.676.9969 if you need further information or you would like to attend.
Last….bear alert!! The resident black bear is making his way around Six Mile Lake and was spotted both on the south end heading north and spotted again in the front yard of a neighbor on Gardner Rd across from Six Mile Lake Rd plus the beautiful fox we have watched all winter has five kits.
