October 2017 – President’s Corner

Hello Members,

This has certainly been a funny fall season from possible frost a couple of weeks ago to 80’s and 90’s this past week. How crazy is that?? This next week looks pretty mild so get out and enjoy the lake and all it has to offer.

Every year about this time I get phone calls about shooting on the lake. Please remember that duck season, small game season, early bow season, etc., are all in progress now. Yes, it is legal to shoot waterfowl on the lake. If you have any question about the laws please refer to the Michigan DNR website.

On Saturday October 14th the SMLA will have it’s annual Chili Supper and snowbird send-off. Please contact Mary Sorrell at 512-577-4114 if you’re undecided what to bring. There will be a free membership awarded to the person who makes the best chili and also one for the best dessert. I believe you can also sign up for cornbread as well. Do try to make it as it’s really a fun time and the last event we have for the rest of the year other than the Christmas party in December. The supper starts at 5pm and the location is the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church on the corner of Six Mile Lake Rd and Old State Rd. There’s also the opportunity to win pumpkins and centerpieces at the end of the event.

I would like to let everyone know that the new SMLA board of directors will take over on January 1, 2018. Cliff Sorrell will be our new president. Paula Stephanic will be the new treasurer replacing Kathy Batka who has done an outstanding job these past four years. I will be the new secretary replacing Tom Kupovits who has done a very fine job as well. Jeff Rogers and Craig Schmidt and Joy Hettig will remain and joining them on the board will be newcomers Linda Van Andel and Kathryn Bell. Thanks to all who have given and are giving of their time to serve on the board!!

Next year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Six Mile Lake Association. It is hard to believe that it was that long ago when about 25 of us got together at Trudell’s house on Swallow Lane to try to form a group that would work to bring our lake residents together. From that little band grew an organization with over 110 families all with the same goal in mind…to keep Six Mile Lake clean, safe and a wonderful place to reside. To all of you I thank you so much for being members of the Six Mile Lake Association and my friends.

See you at the Chili Supper!!!!!

Until next time!!!

Cherie
