Flooding Alert!

Attention!!!

Six Mile Lake has experienced several inches of heavy rain…I would guess at least ten inches in the last 48 hours. The lake is still frozen solid so the water has risen quickly. At my home it is up over three feet in lake level and is thirty feet up my lawn creeping toward my deck. The culvert in Ellsworth is overflowing. We are running two pumps out of our pond and the excess water is still overflowing the pond and taking out chunks of our yard. It is critical here with more rain expected.

This is a warning that more rain is on the way. The ground is also still frozen so the water is flowing across lawns and the lake is swelling. The entire Chain is experiencing high water with basements flooding in homes not even close to the lakes because the ground remains frozen and the water has nowhere to go.

Your board has been working for years to try to get the county to react to the threat of flooding. We put together a ‘water book’ detailing what we perceived as mismanagement by the, now retired, dam operator and presented it to the county board ten years ago. We’ve been involved in so many ways about this issue I won’t go into all the details now.

I have notified the board of commissioners, the current dam operator and the Antrim County Emergency manager. They will be at my home this afternoon. I will keep you posted but right now you need to be aware of the situation here. It is a full blown emergency situation. Please contact your neighbors if you don’t live here to check on your property. If you do live here take lots of photos of what’s going on at your property. We need to put pressure on this county in every way we can to get them to take action on the culvert in Ellsworth and the interconnected waterways all the way down to the Bellaire Dam.

Thank you
