Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners Meeting this Wednesday July 8th

Dear Members,

FINALLY the Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners has scheduled Antrim County Operator of Dams 15 minutes of their time to allow Leslie Meyers  to talk about the Bellaire Dam project. This has been a long time coming. If you have been keeping up with this issue, then you know that Ellsworth,  St. Clair and Six Mile Lake have been omitted from the original district and Leslie is seeking to add these lakes back in in order to get the additional funding necessary through a Special Assessment District or SAD in order to replace the culvert in Ellsworth which has been identified as a major choke point on the Upper Chain. This would also pay for the rest of the dredging along the Upper Chain  and doing this would hopefully alleviate current flooding conditions along the Chain especially here on Six Mile Lake.  The hangup for the Charlevoix Commissioners is that Leslie cannot pinpoint the specific cost for many reasons. However, the SAD, if approved could cost as little as $250 or as much as $1000 a year per property depending on use for the next 10-20 years. It’s complicated and these numbers are only approximates not set in concrete.

This is your chance to show up and voice your opinion during the public comment portion at the beginning of this meeting. We are asking that all property owners concerned about this continuous flooding on Six Mile lake show up please. The meeting starts at 9:30 am at the Shirley Roloff Center 13513 Division St. Charlevoix 49720.

Let’s pack the room!
