Township meetings

Attention Members,

If you are wondering what is happening to our roads, why they are such a mess, and where the funding is for repairs please attend the Echo Township Meeting on Wednesday May 1 at 7pm at the Echo Township Hall. Supervisor Derenzy would like to see a packed hall for this meeting as Road Commission Director Burt Thompson will be giving a short presentation and Bill will open the floor to questions. Our roads are going to continue to get worse and as the saying goes ‘the squeaky wheel gets the grease’ so please plan on attending.

Also, the Milfoil Assessment District was passed by both Townships after the public hearing on Monday April 22 with a modification made to shared access parcels. The exact amount it will cost each property owner will be announced at the next public hearing on Monday May 14 which will also be at the Central Lake High School cafeteria. Based upon the figures given to the Townships by the lake management company, PLM, the first year’s assessment will be higher than the proposed $200 but will be less each consecutive year thereafter for a total of five years. The reason for the initial higher assessment is so that the entire lake can be treated, otherwise, certain areas would have remained untreated because of lack of funds. Please remember that the following four assessment years will be less but again exact amounts will be given at the next public hearings and will be posted on the SMLA website.

Respectfully submitted,

Cherie Hogan
